Paul’s passion is to enhance the cycling experience for all users and integrate cycling into the psyche of all Melbournians as a safe, accessible and most importantly fun mode of transport. Increasing bicycle user numbers through developing cycling infrastructure and strategies to encourage people to take up cycling underpins this passion.
Identifying a need for providing an approachable source of bicycle servicing and information for everyday cyclists, government and industry, Paul established Cycologist in 2013. He has helped to establish bicycle stores, businesses and not for profit organisations relating to bicycles.
Paul has over ten years experience in the bicycle industry, starting out in sales but quickly moving into mechanics and has been the head mechanic/workshop manager for a number of stores in Melbourne and is proficient in all areas of bicycle mechanics including;
- wheel building
- hydraulic brake systems
- gluing singles/tubulars
- fork servicing
- repairing internals of Campagnolo and Shimano/internal geared hub systems
A passion for commuter and cargo cycles has seen Paul work on a wide range of bikes in varying states of disrepair and requiring some lateral thinking. Developing an efficient workshop is a skill developed over many years and he prides himself on providing a fast timely and cost effective service to customers.
When not working on bikes Paul can be found riding them, racing them or googling them. In 2010 Paul completed a single speed ride unsupported across Australia to raise funds for Bicycles For Humanity which just provides a further example of his passion for the two wheel steed.
